Music critics have described Paul Renz as "a remarkable guitarist and composer," a creator of jazz that "knocks out listeners with subtle firepower hidden in a splendid vocabulary of feints and finesse." A graduate of Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory, himself a student of jazz greats Herb Pomeroy, George Russell, and Mick Goodrick, Renz has recorded a half dozen CDs which have received critical acclaim and topped jazz charts. A passionate and sought-after teacher, he offers private guitar and bass lessons as well as classes on theory and improvisation. Renz lives and teaches in Minneapolis, but offers online guitar and theory lessons to students around the world.

It’s a good place to start improving and expanding your blues soloing. Another way to think about it- what can I play over a dom7 chord? We’ll focus on arpeggios and these scales: Mixolydian, major pentatonic, minor pentatonic, and the blues scale. Summer Jazz Camp

August 22-25, 2024

Treat yourself to a summer jazz camp/vacation on the beautiful shores of Lake Rideau in Ontario, Canada. A jazz retreat for adults-five nights and four full days of jazz study and jamming in an absolutely gorgeous setting. We'll hunker down with jazz standards, blues, and bebop. We'll play music for hours on end and cover a wide range of topics-practicing methods, articulation and phrasing, jazz theory, modern chord voicings, improvisation techniques and ensemble playing. Classical musicians interested in the art of jazz and blues and improvisation are welcome!
